Creating positive memories around the holidays for children and families with diabetes
The Dia-Elf Project
Hello my dear,
In 2020, we discovered a growing need to bring joy to children and families living with diabetes around the holidays. My fellow Dia-Elves and I (elves with diabetes) deeply understand that diabetes never takes a break. Blood sugar pricks, insulin injections, failed devices, and midnight wake ups don’t stop just because it’s Christmas. So, every year, we make surprise visits to homes and Nemours Children’s Hospital, where we sit, smile, and be merry with families making the most of a challenging and emotional time. If we elves can do it, despite all the available sugar cookies, so can they! Your support helps us create positive memories and makes all the difference. And we’ll put in a good word for you to be added to Santa’s Nice List!

Where the Idea Came From
It started with one surprise visit made in 2019 from our volunteers to a member, Brandi, who was battling renal failure with Type 1 Diabetes. Now, every holiday season, we elves with diabetes and helpers visit families at home and newly diagnosed children and adults in the hospital.
